If you genuinely enjoy the unknown, try the Surprise Box, where we send you a different genre each month: could be Victorian steampunk; could be teens agonizing over midterms; could be fairies defending their homeland. Take a risk. Live a little!

Decide how long you want to keep getting books
Is this a one-time thing or something more?
Our Boxes are available as a one-time purchase (a One Box Stand) or a monthly subscription: month-to-month trial, three-month dalliance, six-month courtship, or one-year commitment. (It gets cheaper the longer you commit!) Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled, so you have to decide when the book relationship has reached an end (or a pause point).
You can take care of someone’s literary needs with a Book Box by choosing the gift option (which will not renew automatically). If you’re not sure what genre they would enjoy, you can choose the Surprise Box (and both be surprised each month) or get them a gift certificate (and let them choose the genre–after no doubt thanking you profusely for such a thoughtful gift!).

Note:
Our books are new, not used, and may be paperback or hardcover.
The Books are Boxed by a different theme within each genre every month.
Some books will be the start of a new series from an author, and all will be from an author with more than one published novel (this means you will not have to wait for winter to arrive for more than a decade to find out what happens next).

Science Fiction
The Science Fiction Box contains stories that deal with science and technology. Themes in this Box might include Dystopian Futures, Underwater Adventures, or Space Colonies.
Some authors included are Steve Erickson, Nina Allan, Drew Williams, T.J. Berry, Ben Bova, Julie Czerneda, and Julia Keller.
Romance
The Romance Box contains stories that deal with relationships (or lack thereof), including love, some sex, and a central conflict characters overcome. Themes include Beach Getaways, Vacation Flings, Office Temptations, and Date Disasters.
Some authors included are Meg Tilly, Joy Callaway, Emily Robbins, Zara Raheem, Parker Lee, James Frey, and Kara Isaac.
Mystery
The Mysteries Box contains classic mysteries. These stories will feature a compelling event, a diehard protagonist, gumshoe detective work, and a satisfying revelation—but without the blood spatter and explosions found in the Thriller Box. Themes in the Box may include Detective Tales, Small Towns, Plucky Heroines, and Old School Policework.
Some authors include Keith Thomas, Terry James, Todd Scott, Sarah Harris, M.J. McGrath, Ruth Hamilton, Serena Kent, Hilary Bonner, and Max Gladstone.
Nonfiction
The Nonfiction Box contains books based on fact. Themes may include Memoir, History Time, Social Commentary, and Self Help. Want to learn something new? Check out a Nonfiction Box!
Some authors included in the Nonfiction Box are William Geroux, Frank Welsh, David Hepworth, Andrew Morton, and Mary Beard.
Women's Fiction
The Women's Fiction Box includ stories that contain some element of personal growth or life changes, and they may include Chick Lit. Box themes could include Sisters, Estranged Family, Online Dating, and Tragic Histories.
Some authors included in the Women's Fiction Box are Naomi Jackson, D.J. Palmer, Karin Tanabe, Shari King, Anna Yen, and Wendy Wax.
Teen
The Teen Box includes coming-of-age stories written for young adults. They will vary from high school halls to imaginative landscapes, but all involve a young protagonist, elements of emerging sexuality, and some social commentary with a solid plotline and good writing. Themes may include Bullying, Secret Identities, Ancient Heirlooms, and Dystopias.
Some authors included in the Teen Box are Blair Thornburgh, Jean Ferris, Gary Soto, Christopher Pike, Laura Gibson, Shana Silver, and Katie Lowe.
Fantasy
The Fantasy Box has stories that contain magic or the supernatural. Boxes are theme-based, such as Fallen Empires, Prophecies, Lone Heroes, Shifters, Witchy Women, and Adventures.
Some authors included are R.S. Belcher, Christopher Golden, Jenna Glass, Sarah Beth Kurst, Simon Green, and Guy Gavriel Kay.
Thriller
The Thriller Box contains mysteries, suspense, and stories that keep you guessing. They feature a strong main character, a thrilling plot, and perhaps some violence. Themes might include Haunted Past, The Big City, Lost Girls, or Old Friends.
Some authors included are Jonas Jonasson, Timothy Smith, Aga Lesiewicz, Steve Barnes, Lee Irby, Karen Ellis, Unsun Kim, and Shari Lapine.
Surprise
Do you enjoy taking risks? Do you genuinely love the unknown? Try a Surprise Box—let us send you a new genre each month. Each Surprise Box will have a theme, but you have absolutely no idea what world you are entering each month. It could be steampunk Victorians; it could be cavemen facing mastodons; it could be cowboys defending their homestead. One thing is certain: it will be a good story (at least some people will have thought so!) with intriguing characters, a solid plot, and good writing. Live a little. Take a risk. Get a Surprise Box.
