How does the subscription work?
1. Choose a size

Little Box has two Books; Big Box has four Books.

2. Pick a genre

Fantasy, Nonfiction, Mysteries, Romance, Science Fiction, Teen, Thriller, or Women's Fiction.

If you genuinely enjoy the unknown, try the Surprise Box, where we send you a different genre each month: could be Victorian steampunk; could be teens agonizing over midterms; could be fairies defending their homeland. Take a risk. Live a little!
3. Decide how long you want to keep getting books

We offer subscriptions on a month-to-month basis, three months, six months, and one year. (It gets cheaper the longer you commit!)
4. Kick back and enjoy your books each month.

The Books are Boxed by a different theme each month.

Some books will be the start of a new series from an author, and all will be from an author with more than one published novel (this means you will not have to wait for winter to arrive for more than a decade).

What if I don't want a subscription?
Looking for something to read but don't want to wait for shipping dates?

Sometimes, you want it right away. We totally understand. Other times, you're not looking for anything long term, and monthly subscriptions can seem like too much commitment.

Is it worth the price?
Great question. We think so, but let us tell you why. We’ll use some of our Boxes as examples.
A Big Science Fiction Box may contain The Moon and the Other by John Kessel (PB $20.81), Side Life by Steve Toutonghi (PB $16.00), Cash Crash Jubilee by Eli KP William (HC $22.41), and Anyone by Charles Soule (PB $13.59). That’s a total book value of $72.81, so you’re saving $22.81 off the top.

A Little Romance Box may contain Falling by Jane Green (PB $17.28) and The Future She Left Behind by Marin Thomas (PB $24.24). That’s a total book value of $41.52, so you’re saving $16.52 off the top.

That seems pretty great to us, but really, what you’re saving is time, which as we get older, we may find is more valuable. Before, when I wanted to find a new author, I would wander a bookstore until something caught my eye (usually way more somethings than I intended #readerproblems). Now that I have more obligations (family, work, small business, etc.), the idea of wandering a bookstore for hours seems like a dream come true.* If someone could just mail me some books each month, that saves me money and time (not to mention all that time doing the equivalent of Netflix scrolling—what DO I want to read?).
*This is not to say that wandering bookstores isn’t worth the time—of course it is! And self-care is important! But indulging for new books each month just isn’t feasible with my schedule these days. If you can wander the aisles, please go for it! But know that we’re here for those months when you can’t.
When do you ship the books?
All of our subscription Boxes ship on the 15th of the month and renew on the 25th of the previous month (pay June 25th, ship July 15th). This gives us enough time to pack up all the books for shipping that month (books are heavy and this takes a bit of time, so please allow us to save our lower backs). You will receive tracking info via email when your Box ships. We use Media Mail for all shipping (because we are literally just books); please note that Media Mail does not forward packages.
If you move, please contact us by the 5th of the month so your Box goes to the right place and doesn't get stuck in limbo!
So, what is the fine print?
All JustBooksBox books are new, not used. You will receive a blend of paperbacks and hardcovers. We source our books from wholesalers, so sometimes they still have a store sticker on the front (mostly Target/BN, but still some Borders). These peel off easily; we'd do it, but we just don't have the time with all the books that come through our warehouse! Because we offer the first book in an existing series, all our books will be older (published at least a year ago)—they must be in order to be the first in a series with sequels already available! On the occasion the book doesn't begin a series, it will be from an author with other published works. The idea is to introduce you to new authors, so there has to be more to read from them.

Do you take returns or offer refunds?
Ordering any new product involves a certain amount of risk, but books are often a special case. Because reading tastes vary so widely, even within genres, there is always the chance that a certain author or story will not satisfy a specific reader. That is the risk of a Book Box. Unfortunately, JustBooksBox does not offer refunds or returns on shipped Boxes. Don’t like the book? This is a perfect time to regift it or pay it forward. We know someone will appreciate it!
Do you offer gift cards?
Too many choices? Get a gift card and let the reader work out the details!

Why won't my subscription or gift card stay in my cart?
Our website software only allows you to purchase one subscription or gift card at a time, so you are sent directly to the checkout page. Boxes on Demand and other non-subscription products will appear in your cart and can be purchased together.
